Call for Nominations – 2022 Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values

  • February 14, 2022

ALLEA is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values. The laureate is set to be announced during ALLEA’s General Assembly on 11-12 May 2022, leading up to a Prize lecture during the latter half of the year.
To recall, this Prize is unique in its nature as it emphasises the value of outstanding scientific and intellectual activities for the advancement of the European project and our common values. From the outset, this project has received great support from various members of the European Commission including its then President, José Manuel Barroso when it was first launched in 2014. Through their attendance at respective award ceremonies, each of them demonstrated the importance of this Prize to the European policy, society, and the wider scientific community. In the last few years, our laureates have received notable recognition through the framework of a dedicated event.
Kindly take note of the following criteria should you wish to put forward a nomination:
• The Prize recognises researchers or intellectuals whose work represents a significant impact on the advancement of Europe. A laureate’s work is ideally of interdisciplinary nature and exhibits a remarkable and demonstrable contribution to existing and emerging common European values, or the processes behind European integration and identity.
• The Prize seeks to honour an individual with background in any discipline – no formal restriction shall apply to the academic field.
• Nominations can include individuals whose career paths may not be strictly academic, but whose work exhibits a strong and demonstrable contribution to the advancement of Europe.
ALLEA look forward to receiving your nominations, including a 1–2-page letter detailing why the nominee matches the above criteria and a CV of the candidate. Suggestions for potential reviewers of the candidate’s scholarly work and/or further references are welcome.
Nominations should be directed electronically to secretariat@allea.org by 13 March 2022. Please note that nominations are strictly confidential and may therefore not be disclosed to the candidate or others.
