Catalogue of Georgian Medical Manuscripts
The compilation of the catalogue of the Georgian medical manuscripts started on the initiative of Professor Mikheil Shengelia and for 40 years it has been created as a result of efforts of Georgian medical historians. The catalogue comprises a period of time from the medieval period until the mid-twentieth century and unites different kinds of written monuments. The number of manuscripts amounts 526 so far, and in this respect Georgia is among the largest medical traditions of the world. The catalogue was presented at the international conference “Medical Traditions in and around Byzantine” held in Munich on 14-15 July 2017. The necessity to find the means to provide the leading libraries, universities and relevant institutions of the world with the catalogue was emphasised.
