Presented
by Corr. Member of the Academy T.Sanadze, April 5, 1999
Abstract. Investigation of generation
properties of the waveguide spoke laser on neodymium glass at temperatures
145-370 K has shown, that the absorbing colour centres on kinetics of
generation of the laser as giant pulses, render maximum influence at room
temperatures. Effect of Q-switches is practically absent at temperatures of an
active element below 200 K and is a little loosened at heating of an active
element above 300 K.

The Charge State of Metastable Frenkel Couples in
Electron-Irradiated n- and p-type Silicon Crystals
Presented
December 21, 1998
Abstract. The volumetric photo e.m.f
measured along the silicon samples subjected to local irradiation in the
conditions of different external electric fields revealed that the Frenkel
couples in irradiated n-type silicon are composed of opposed sign carriers in
the metastable state, whereas in the p-type material the carriers are of the same
sign. On the basis of the results of the experiments a hypothesis has been
presented that the concentration of the metastable couples depends on the
irradiation energy and the charge state of the primary radiation defects.

Inelastic Properties of Explosion Compacted Boron
Presented
by Corr. Member of the Academy I.Baratashvili, November 3, 1998
Abstract. At the frequency range from 0.2
to 2 kHz and at temperature 800 to 1100K the T-dependence of internal friction
and elastic modulus were investigated in boron samples prepared by explosion
compacting method. Intensive maximum was observed at ~600K and ~0.35 kHz
frequency. The observed relaxation process was attributed to twin boundary
migration.
The modulus and the background damping
T-dependence were explained by irreversible structural changes in disordered
regions of explosion compacted boron.

Heart Rate Variability in Male Waking Chinchilla
Rabbits
Presented
July 8, 1998
ABSTRACT. Main statistical parameters of
heart rate variability (HRV), including data on the variations of spectrum
within the range of 0.01-5 Hz, covariation and so on were established for male
chinchilla rabbits during passive wakefulness. By comparison of time-domain and
its derivative indices, as well as main parameters of frequency-domain analysis
two groups of rabbits with various initial level of cardiac activity regulation
were distinguished: group I with predominance of cholinergic system activity
and group II with predominance of adrenergic one. Consequently, experiments on
rabbits require separate generalization of results obtained in these groups of
animals. For this HRV studies appear to be rather reliable criterion.

Presented
by Member of the Academy M. Zaalishvili, October 26, 1998
ABSTRACT. The entropic cost and free
energy cost of bound water for some biopolymers were calculated based on the
measurements of low-temperature heat capacity of biopolymers in the temperature
range (2-400 K). The thermodynamic characterization of protein-DNA interactions
has been studied. We found that the water of protein and DNA surface may give
significant contribution to the thermodynamics of protein-DNA association and
consequently in the process of protein-DNA recognition.

Effect of Plaferon LB on Morpho-Functional Activity of
Hepatocytes under Conditions of Hormonal Disbalance in White Rats
Presented
November 3, 1998
Abstract. The effect of Plaferon LB on
morpho-functional activity of hepatocytes was studied in rats on the
experimental model of hormonal disbalance (bilateral adrenalectomy). The
composition is shown to stimulate the RNA-synthesis activity of liver cells and
serves as the inhibitor for the destruction process in liver tissue.
Key words: Plaferon LB, adrenalectomy, hepatocyte,
transcription.

Membranotropic Effects of the Cooperative Action of
some Xenobiotics
Presented
by Corr. Member of the Academy N. Aleksidze, July 5, 1999
Abstract. Cooperative impact of
xenobiotics, the prior components of sewage waters of some plants, on
bioelectric reaction of plasmalemma of kharo-algae Nitella has been
studied. It was shown that depending on component content antagonism
(saturne and propanide) or synergism (phenol and formaldehyde, metaphose and
hexachlorane) can be observed during the cooperative actions in contrast with
one - component ones, although the directions of the shift in ion permeability
of membrane in both cases, as a rule, coincide.
Key words: xenobiotics, membranotropic effect, Nitella.

Influence of Plaferon LB on the Metabolism of Nitric
Oxide (NO) in Case of Thyrotoxicosis
Presented
November 3, 1998
Abstract. Nitric oxide metabolism during
thyrotoxicosis and influence of Plaferon LB on it in experimental
thyrotoxicosis was studied. In the case of diffuse toxic goiter, as well as in
experimental thyrotoxicosis the increased formation of nitric oxide takes place
that indicates the formation of large amount of free radicals. Increased
formation of FeS-NO and HB-NO indicates the formation of large amount of nitric
oxide in the organism during thyrotoxicosis. Plaferon LB prevents redundant
formation of nitric oxide during experimental thyrotoxicosis and facilitates
its quick decrease during the period of restoration.
Key words: nitric oxide, Plaferon LB, thyrotoxicosis.

Immunocompetent Cells in Experimental Tumours of Colon
Presented
by Member of the Academy N. Javakhishvili, October 12, 1998
Abstract. In induced tumours
simultaneously with the deepening of dysplastic changes in tumoural parenchyma
the degree of infiltration of stroma with immunocompetent cells increases. The
composition of infiltrate also changes. In adenomas with mild dysplasia
plasmocytes prevail among the free cells of stroma, with the growth of
dysplasia degree their amount decreases gradually. Percentage of lymphocytes,
on the contrary, increases in accordance with the growth of dysplasia degree.
In adenomas with grave degree dysplasia the amount of lymphocytes prevails over
the amount of plasmocytes.
In invasive forms of cancer cellular
infiltration of stroma decreases and even almost disappears, what points to
depression of local immune reactions.
Key words: colon, adenoma, cancer, immunocompetent cells.

Semiological Typology of Anthroponyms in Modern
English
Presented
by Member of the Academy G.Tsitsishvili, June 2, 1998
Abstract: Componential analysis of the
dictionary definitions of anthroponyms reveals that two layers of
object-logical content of the word are realised in their meaning-denotational
and significative. The presence and prevalence of these components in semantic
structure of anthroponyms determine their sign status. As a result of
generalization of their semantics we single out the following main semiological
classes: 1. anthroponyms proper, 2. real, 3. relative, 4. nominal, 5.
collective, 6. deictic, 7. quantifier anthroponyms.
Key words: anthroponym, sign status, componential analysis,

On the Problem of Linguistic Units
Presented
by Corr. Member of the Academy A. Gvakharia, September 14, 1998
ABSTRACT. Searching for some formal
definition of a linguistic unit we suggest that the units are to be identified
by the combinative features of their constituents regarding the very
possibility of asserting any regular restriction in the mutual compatibility as
the indicator of the complexes being the units.
Key words: unit, compatibility, combination.
