Meeting of the Center for Innovation and High Technology
- October 31, 2022
On October 21, 2022, a regular meeting of the Centre discussed the report of PhD in Chemistry Tengiz Kantaria, at the Institute of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of the Agrarian University of Georgia: “Click chemistry in the design of biodegradable polymers – new perspectives”. It was noted that the copper (I) catalyzed orthogonal “click” reaction of azide-alkyne cycloaddition is intensively used in various technologies. Less attention has been paid to the synthesis of linear polymers by stepwise “click” polymerization (SGCP). In addition, it is expected that the inclusion of 1,2,3-triazole rings formed as a result of the reaction of azide-alkyne cyclocompounds into linear macromolecules will significantly increase their thermal and mechanical properties. Biodegradable click polymers have a high potential for commercialization, as they can be used to produce biomedical materials such as bone substitutes, hydrogels, surfactants and pegylated agents, nano- and microcontainers for the delivery of drugs, antimicrobials and bactericidal materials, etc. This research is funded by STCU/Sh.Rustaveli Foundation grant (No. 6298, 2016-2018), as well as the DAAD scholarship (2019), under which work was carried out at the Free University of Berlin.
