Georgian Fortresses of Tao-Klarjeti and the Issues of Martial Arts

Historian Jaba Samushia, Deputy Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia presented an online presentation on the topic: “Georgian Fortresses of Tao-Klarjeti and the Issues of Martial Arts” at the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The fortress, as a means of defense, was the main object of attack by the enemy, therefore, as soon as peace was established, the process of its restoration began, for example, the various tiers of the Artanuja fortress fence. Inside the fortress there were buildings for various purposes, including feudal lords’ palaces, agricultural and residential buildings, and public buildings. The fortresses of Tao-Klarjeti still preserve the traces of old trenches and military ditches.
