Conference dedicated to the Day of Restoration of Autocephaly of the Georgian Apostolic Church

On March 25, 2022, the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia hosted a conference dedicated to the Day of the Restoration of Autocephaly of the Apostolic Orthodox Church of Georgia. The conference was opened by Academician Roin Metreveli; among the speakers were Georgian and foreign scholars, as well as the Metropolitan of Manglisi and Tetritskaro Anania (Japaridze). The speakers focused on the importance of autocephaly and the great role of the Church in the statehood of Georgia. Academician Roin Metreveli spoke about certain periods in the history of the Georgian Church, in particular, the acceptance, loss or restoration of autocephaly. At the end of the event, the head of the Royal House of Georgia Nugzar Bagration-Gruzinsky presented the Royal Order of King Erekle II to Academician Roin Metreveli for his contribution to Georgian historiography, and the Georgian Society of Military History awarded the famous Georgian scientist with the order of St. George.
