The 150th Anniversary of Ilia Vekua

115 years have passed since the birth of the famous Georgian scientist and public figure, world famous mathematician and mechanic, academician Ilia Vekua. To this significant date was dedicated to the meeting at the Academy of Sciences, which was opened by the President of the Academy, Academician Giorgi Kvesitadze. The reports on Ilia Vekua’s life and work were delivered by: Academician-Secretary of the Physics and Mathematics Department Giorgi Japaridze; Director of the Ilia Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics Giorgi Jaiani; Professor Tamaz Vashakmadze; Ilia Vekua’s granddaughter, professor and journalist Marine Vekua. The scientific heritage of Ilia Vekua is great. His works are devoted to topical problems of mathematics and mechanics. He dealt with many areas of theoretical and applied mathematics, among which the theory of partial equations occupies a special place.
