Meeting of the Commission for Study of National Issues
- July 12, 2022
On July 6, 2022, a regular meeting of the Commission for the Study of National Issues was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, at which the topic was presented: “Two stages of Grakliani history – opinions” (speaker – TSU professor, head of the Archaeological Institute Vakhtang Licheli). Grakliani hill, located on the territory of the villages of the Caspian municipality: Igoeti and Samtavisi, right next to the central highway, is one of the most important monuments of Georgia, because the oldest inscription in Georgia and the Caucasus was found here. It is 3000 years old and is important not only for the history of Georgian culture, but also for the development of writing in general. For the general history of our country and writing, in order to decipher this most important inscription, it is necessary to find additional inscriptions, which is quite possible; therefore, the expedition needs constant and full field seasonal funding in order to be able to plan research work focused on specific discoveries for the long term. For the archaeological research of the Grakliani Hill, at the initiative of the expedition, this year the “Scientific and Rescue Fund of Grakliani” was created.
