The Meeting of the Commission for Studying National Issues

On April 27, 2023, a session of the Commission for Studying National Issues was held at the Academy, at which the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany, Doctor of History, Professor Konstantine Gamsakhurdia delivered a report – “Iranian and Semitic Cultural Flows in Pre-Christian Iberia and Their Later Scribal Reception”. Based on the relevance of the presented topic, the speaker touched on: the study of cultures, their relations, contradictions between them and the processes that determine their synthesis in certain aspects, which is an important task for modern Oriental studies, history of religion, philology and semiotics. This study covers not only the regions of Iran and Mesopotamia, but the entire area of the South Caucasus – Iberia, Armenia and all its parts, which were part of a single cultural and political field. When studying the issue, the speaker relied on a lot of materials in different languages – Old Iranian, Middle Iranian. Epigraphic and archaeological materials were used, as well as works of art from both Iranian and Caucasian political and cultural space. The rich scientific literature in different languages was also taken into account.
