The 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency

The 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was held from September 25 to 29 in Vienna. The General Conference was attended by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili as well as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia, Ambassador of Georgia to Austria Ketevan Tsikhelashvili and representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency.
Delegates of states elected Rafael Mariano Grossi for a second term as Director General of the Agency, who summed up the results of four years of activity of the Agency. The IAEA attaches great importance to promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy and application of safeguards to prevent the diversion of nuclear energy for military use. At the conference, Georgia joined the statement of the European Union, which emphasized the importance of the activities of the IAEA in ensuring radiation protection, nuclear safety and security.
