Meeting of the Permanent Commission for Studying National Issues

A research team of the Center for Georgian Studies, Faculty of Humanities at the Sh. Rustaveli Batumi State University, presented a report at a meeting of the Standing Commission for the Study of National Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia. The report entitled “Results of a comprehensive study of the preserved language and culture of Shavshuri, Klarjuli and Taouri”, was delivered by Professor Mamia Phagava. The co-speakers were professors: Malkhaz Chokharadze, Zaza Shashikadze, Jemal Karalidze, Ramaz Khalvashi, Nugzar Mgeladze and Maia Baramidze. The results and prospects of research conducted in the “countries” of Chorokhi – Adjara, Shavsheti, Klarjeti, Tao – in the historical Lazeti and the settlements built by Georgian Muhajirs in the provinces of Turkey in 1995-2023 have been reported. Since its establishment, the Center of Georgian Studies has organized more than 40 large and small expeditions to Chorokhi “countries”, Muhajir settlements and Lazeti, collected and brought into scientific circulation folklore, dialectological, ethnological and onomastic materials; implemented several important projects.
