Meeting of the Permanent Commission for Studying National Issues

On December 15, 2023, the “Permanent Commission for Studying National Issues” held a meeting jointly with the “Commission for the Complex Study of the Highland Region of Georgia”.

The topic of discussion was: “David Gareja – historical-geographical realities”. The speakers: Assoc. Professor Tengiz Gordeziani and Professor Nodar Elizbarashvili familiarized the commission members with cartographic sources available before 1915, and a comparative analysis of topographic maps of 1937 and 1938, which showed what problems arise with determining the scale of the David Gareja monastery complex as a monument. A newly compiled objective map of the David Gareja monastery complex was presented. The scientific research of David Gareja was presented from historical, cartographic and legal point of view.
