The new absolutely different bacterial virus is discovered by Georgian scientists . Therefore the International Committee of virus taxonomy invented new taxon- surname :  Dibbivirus.  On 13th of May, 2024 at the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia Academician Tinatin Sadunishvili presented paper: ”New Bacterial Virus and New Surname Dibbivirus in Virus Taxonomy.”  Several years ago the same speaker  presented at the S. Durmishidze Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology output of the research  on tomato bacterial spots caused by pathogen, particularly the results of research of bacteriophage excretion were presented.

The result of the nucleotides studying sequence  of complete genome of this bacterial virus and annotation of genome presented discovery which showed that phage genome is unique and different from all other well known viruses. In DNA two chainlets 49981 base pair all 81 genes are deciphered. The genetic map is created. The virus data are located on official page of USA government (National Institute of Health), the National Institute of Health), (National Center for Biotechnology Information),  NC_017981.1 (Sadunishvili T.,Gaganidze D., Kropinski A.M., Lingohr E.J., Ghudumidze N., Kvesitadze G. (2012) Xanthomonas phage vB_Xve_DIBB, complete genome. AccessionNC_017981.1.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/NC_017981).

In 2020 in Lithuania after excretion of two related phages counter to Pantoea agglomerans  strains the authors :Tinatin Sadunishvili, Giorgi Kvesitadze(the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia), Sergi Durmishidze Institure of Biochemistry and Biotechnology), Kropinski AM., Adriaenssens EM., Truncaitė L., Šimoliūnas E. (the Lithuanian Scientific Centres) jointly applied (ICTV-International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses)  to create new surname of viruses because of taxonomic imperfection, particularly a genus, Dibbivirus, containing three species in the family Myoviridae). The criterion of species demarcation in new name will be determination of  95 per cent identity of nucleotides sequence. On April 2924 the International Committee on Viruses adopted new surname, which was named Dibbivirus, because of avowal of priority of newly discovered phage. This name comees from S. Durmishidze  Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology,  where the first such virus was emitted. Thus all of them (one Georgian and two Lithuanian) viruses wear the following surname: Dibbivirus: Dibbivirus DIBBI, Dibivirus  AAM37 and Dibbivirus PSKM.
