Academician Givi Gavardashvili Represented Georgia at the 4th World Irrigation Forum

Academician Givi Gavardashvili, Chairman of the Commission for the Study of Scientific Problems of Natural Disasters of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Vice-President of the Georgian National Commission for Irrigation and Drainage, and Director of the Tsotne Mirtskhulava Water Management Institute of the Georgian Technical University, undertook a business trip to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, from September 7 to 18, 2025. His visit was made at the official invitation of Professor Marco Archieri (Italy), President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), to participate in the 4th World Irrigation Forum, held under the auspices of ICID.

 

Academician Givi Gavardashvili Represented Georgia at the 4th World Irrigation Forum with the Following Contributions:

  1. Delivered a presentation at the plenary session of the World Forum, which was attended by more than 750 delegates from 50 countries.
  2. Presentation on the topic “Climate Change by Regions and Municipalities of Georgia and Its Assessment” in the European Regional Working Group session.
  3. Presented a scientific study on the Risk of Land Reclamation in Georgia in the Context of Climate Change” in the session on Non-Traditional Water Resources and Environmental Protection.
  4. Participated on behalf of Georgia in the elections of the Vice-Presidents of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), where Vice-Presidents from Spain, Nepal, and Nigeria were elected.
  5. Presented the request of the National Commission for Irrigation and Drainage of Georgia at the ICID Executive Committee meeting to host the South Caucasus Regional World Conference on “Climate Change and Soil Erosion” in 2027 under the auspices of ICID.

 

During the 4th World Irrigation Forum, Academician Givi Gavardashvili held official meetings with Professor Marco Archieri (Italy), President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), and Professor Rakesh Gupta (India), Secretary General of ICID. He also met with the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the National Commissions for Irrigation and Drainage of France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Iran, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, India, Australia, Nepal, Jordan, Iraq, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries. In addition, he engaged with representatives of various ICID working groups, including the European Regional Working Group.

 

The 4th World Irrigation Forum (ICID) concluded with a gala banquet and a concert featuring traditional Malaysian folk dance and music.
