The Role of Tourism in the Socio-Economic and Ecological Sustainability of Georgia’s Border Mountainous Regions

On May 27, at the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Nana Kvirkvelia, a scientist from the Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography of TSU, delivered a report on the topic: “The Role of Tourism in the Socio-Economic and Ecological Sustainability of Georgia’s Border Mountainous Regions: A Geographical Study.”
The report discussed the problems of sustainable tourism development in the border regions of the Eastern Caucasus (Khevi, Khevsureti, Tusheti). The role of tourism in the socio-economic and ecological sustainability of the local community was emphasized, and the attitude of the local population towards the prospects for tourism development in the next 10 years was reviewed.
