On 23 October 2019, the jubilee session devoted to the 90th Anniversary of the prominent Georgian scholar and public man, honorary president of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, academician Thomas Gamkrelidze was held at the Academy. The session was opened by academician Giorgi Kvesitadze. Academician Roin Metreveli delivered a report on Thomas Gamkrelidze’s life and activity. The unique contribution made by Thomas Gamkrelidze in the development of Georgian Studies, Georgian Orientalism and Indo-European linguistics was emphasized. Thomas Gamkrelidze’s relationship with the Georgian Apostolic Church and its spiritual leader is very special. That is the reason for such close cooperation between the Georgian Patriarchate and the Academy of Sciences.
