The 120th Anniversary of Academician Shalva Amiranashvili

On 27 November 2019, a jubilee meeting dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Georgian scholar, one of the founders of Georgian art history, a teacher and public figure, academician Shalva Amiranashvili was held at the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The meeting was attended by members of the academy, invited guests and prominent members of the public. Professor Natela Dzhabua delivered a report entitled “Academician Shalva Amiranashvili’s Life and Activities”. Shalva Amiranashvili’s contribution to Georgian history and especially to art history is immense. His fundamental works in Georgian art have found worldwide recognition. To this anniversary, the Georgian National Academy of Sciences has published Shalva Amiranashvili’s essay – “Tourism and Monuments of Material Culture”, which has not lost its relevance today.
