Session of Ekvtime Takaishvili Historical Society of Georgia
- January 28, 2020
On 24 January 2020, a session of the joint scientific council of the National Committee of Georgian Historians and Ekvtime Takaishvili Georgian Historical Society was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia. There was discussed a report of the President of the National Committee of Georgian Historians, Vice-President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Academician Roin Metreveli “A few words about the distortion of key issues in the history of Georgia”. The speaker noted that biased coverage of key issues of Georgian history abroad has been significantly intensified recently. As an example, numerous concrete facts of how Abkhazian and Ossetian historians distort the history of Georgia were shown. A similar trend is characteristic of modern Russian and Armenian historiography. The cases of biased interpretation of the history of Georgia are also found in the works of European and American scholars. The Council has established a commission of historians to study the state of teaching Georgian history in schools and report to the Academic Council. In the future, a similar commission will study the issue of teaching the history of Georgia in the institutions of higher education.
