Meeting of the Mountain Commission of the Academy of Sciences

On 12 February 2020, the regular meeting of the “Mountain” Commission of the Academy was held (Chairperson of the meeting Academician Avtandil Arabuli, scientific secretary PhD Miron Pirtskhelani). The commission discussed the construction of the Lentekhi-Mestia road and tunnel. This project is unique throughout the country, both in socio-economic and militarily terms. In addition, it is particularly important for the population of Mestia, Lentekhi, Lechkhumi, Racha, Tsqakltubo-Kutaisi, Sachkhere-Chiatura and other regions of western Georgia as one of the important sources of socio-economic recovery. To get to Lentekhi from Mestia, you need to go 300 km while the tunnel reduces the distance to 36 km.
