Meeting with the leaders of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health

On the initiative of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, a meeting with the director of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, prof. Amiran Gamkrelidze and Deputy Director – prof. Paata Imnadze was held on June 3, 2020. The meeting was dedicated to the issues related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The president of the Academy Giorgi Kvesitadze and Prof. Amiran Gamkrelidze stated that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the research of the accumulated material related to the infection acquires particular importance. In this regard, the role of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences with its scientific potential is extremely significant. It was considered appropriate to include leading Georgian scientists in the development of molecular technologies and biotechnologies in the country. For this purpose, a joint analytical center is to be established with the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, which will make a significant contribution to the study of the coronavirus and its control.
On behalf of the Academy, Acad. G. Kvesitadze expressed his readiness within the shortest period of time to identify the research institutes that will take part in fight against the COVID-19 and analytical activities in the post-pandemic period.
