Meeting of the Commission for Complex Study of Highland Issues

On 23 June, 2021, the Georgian National Academy of Sciences hosted a regular meeting of the Commission for the Complex Study of the Highland Issues in Georgia, which was dedicated to the current problems of rural development in the light of the latest challenges in our country. The session was opened by the chairman of the Commission, Acad. Avtandil Arabuli. A well-known expert in the field, Prof. Paata Koguashvili delivered a report “The Topical Issues of the Modern Georgian Village”. He examined in detail the obstacles that hinder the development of today’s rural settlements and raised the inevitable legislative and institutional issues that need to be addressed. The issues of legal status of rural (rural settlement) and private and municipal land management were especially highlighted as the basis for rational management of economic processes. A number of other topical issues were raised during the session. These are: some problematic aspects of the mountain law, the complexity of registering land in ownership, the development of cooperation, the policy of facilitating new settlements, the development of infrastructure, problems of border regions, etc. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure – Giorgi Dididze and Giorgi Arsoshvili, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture – Paata Chipashvili and Giorgi Mishelidze who took an active part in the discussion.
