Opportunities for the Dissemination of Models and Technologies of Circular Economy in Georgia

On 2 July, 2021, a meeting of the “Center for Innovation and High Technologies” was held at the Presidium of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, dedicated to the possibilities of disseminating the models and technologies of the circular economy in Georgia. The material is used multiple times and the products are designed for long-term use, and the material from which homogeneous products are made is reused at the end of the product’s useful life, thus minimizing production waste. The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Center, academician Georgy Kvesitadze. The members of the Center and the attending public were welcomed by Mariam Kimeridze, Chair of the Georgian Society of Nature Explores “Orchis” and Mr. Eric Iles, Head of the Swedish Agency for Development Cooperation in Georgia. Then the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Academician Solomon Pavliashvili spoke about the approaches of the circular economy in Georgia and the existing problems.
In his extensive speech, Dr. Dariusz Edward Prasek, Member of the UN Advisory Board on Circular Economics, highlighted the need to accelerate the transition to a circular economy model as a waste management policy. The EU views the circular economy as an opportunity for resource-poor Europe to maintain global competitiveness and provide a high quality environment.
