Meeting of the Center for Innovation and High Technology
- September 28, 2021
On 23 September 2021, a meeting of the “Center for Innovation and High Technologies” was held at the Presidium of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences which was dedicated to the Bayesian method of conditional statistical hypothesis testing as a new philosophy of hypothesis testing in parallel and sequential experiments (speaker: Kartlos Kachiashvili, professor of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems at the Georgian Technical University).
The conditional Bayesian methodology solves problems that are difficult to overcome by other approaches, in particular, the speaker named several practical problems solved by these methods: 1) detection and tracking of moving objects based on radar information; 2) Identification of sources of accidental pollution of the river, depending on the current situation, by granting privileges to environmental or economic factors; 3) sustainable development of production in accordance with the set strategy; 4) a system for ensuring safe movement of ships; 5) verification by simultaneously limiting the two types of errors in biometric systems to the desired levels.
President of the Academy, Academician Giorgi Kvesitadze, Academicians Ramaz Khurodze and Giorgi Japaridze, Professors David Gurgenidze, Iveri Kakubava, Aleksandre Didebulidze, Merab Akhobadze and Otar Shonia took part in the discussion. It was noted that, according to internationally recognized results, the research carried out made a significant contribution to the development of modern science, in particular the theory of testing statistical hypotheses and estimating the parameters of the laws of distribution of random variables.
