Doctor of Philology, Professor, Professor-Emeritus.
Corresponding Member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences; Honorable Member of the Greek Archaeological Society; Honorary Doctor at the Batumi State University. Author of about 250 scientific works, including 28 monographs.
Primary research interests are: ancient civilization, history of ancient literature, etiology, etruscology, Greek and Latin linguistics, Kartvelology or Georgian studies.
Editor-in- Chief of the Encyclopedia “Antique Caucasus”. Chief Editor of the International journal “Phasis”. The editor of around 100 books and monographs in the field of Hellinology.
