Remembering Avtandil (Basa) Ghoghoberidze

With the support of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, the Union of Veteran Footballers and the Football Federation of Georgia, a commemorative evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary Georgian football player Avtandil (Basa) Ghogoberidze was held at the Academy. Basa Ghoghoberidze was born on August 3, 1922 in the city of Sukhumi. He played in the youth teams of Sukhumi Pishchevik, Sukhumi Dynamo and Tbilisi. He scored 127 goals in 341 matches at the USSR Championship, which is a club record. Basa Ghoghoberidze was the best scorer of the USSR Championship, a two-time silver and four-time bronze winner, a finalist of the Cup draw and People’s Spartakiad; Honored master of sports, member of the Fedotov club (143 goals). Captain of Tbilisi “Dinamo”, participant of XV Olympics, honored coach of Georgia; Awarded with the second degree Vakhtang Gorgasli and Red Banner of Labor orders. He died on November 20, 1980 in Tbilisi.
