International Conference “Regulation of mudflows with innovative structures”

On August 21-26, 2023, the Academy hosted the international scientific conference “Flood regulation using innovative structures” with the participation of researchers from Italy, Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus and Georgia. The conference was organized by the Department of Agriculture at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Consultative Status Organization, the Ecocenter for Environmental Protection within the framework and support of the SRNSF’s grant project, “The Elastic Debris Flow-Regulating Barrage” (AR – 18-1244). The conference was opened with an introductory speech and honored guests were welcomed by the President of the Academy, Academician Roin Metrevel. Academician Givi Gavardashvili is the chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, which is very representative. The President of the Academy, academician Roin Metrevel made an opening speech and welcomed the guests of honor. This conference has acquired even greater significance in connection with the recent large-scale landslide in the mountain resort of Shovi in Georgia. Floods, avalanches, landslides and other disasters are often unpredictable. However, different countries around the world are trying to avoid such events using innovative means. Particular attention was paid to these issues during the conference. During the conference, guests visited: the Zhinvali Earth Dam, flood control structures, an elastic flood control dam in the bed of the Mleti River gorge, an innovative snow avalanche structure, etc.
