President of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Academician Roin Metreveli was awarded Ilia Chavchavadze Gold Medal

On September 29, 2023, the director of the Ilia Chavchavadze House-Museum Andro Bedukadze and members of the board of the “Ilia Foundation” – Zurab Chkhaidze, Ivane Amirkhanashvili and Ucha Sherazadishvili visited the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia. The event, which was opened by the Vice-President of the Academy Ramaz Khurodze was attended by members of the Presidium of the Academy. The “Ilia Foundation” was founded in 1998 for popularization and advancement of Ilia Chavchavadze’s ideas and the representation of notable individuals. Its responsibility includes paying tribute to those who have received state awards. It was mentioned that the Kartu Foundation restored Ilia’s house-museum, which had been in danger of being demolished but was preserved thanks to Roin Metreveli’s efforts as a rector of Tbilisi State University. The President of the Academy, Academician Roin Metreveli, was given the “Big Medal” of Ilia Chavchavadze (the gold medal was made by the sculptor Merab Berdzenishvili) in recognition of all of the aforementioned factors as well as his unique contribution to the advancement of historical science in Georgia for his most significant public work.
