  • December 29, 2023

A regular meeting of the Center for Innovation and High Technologies was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, at which the report “Prospects for the commercialization of agrobiological science” was discussed. The report was delivered by academician Tinatin Sadunishvili and corresponding member of the Academy Alexander Didebulidze. The issues of commercialization of agrobiological science and technology, which relate to new varieties of cultivated plants obtained were discussed. Modern biotechnologies are a priority for the national economies of many developed countries, and increasing the competitiveness of biotechnological products in key markets is the main direction of their strategy. It was emphasized that the low level of commercialization of scientific research results is a pressing problem on the way to turning Georgia’s agricultural products into a net exporter, but commercialization can bring greater profit to the researcher and, therefore, increase the country’s level of innovation. The stimulating factor here is considered to be special government programs aimed at accelerating the development of new areas of biotechnology.
