The 110th anniversary of Irakli Abashidze

On 22 November 2019, the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia celebrated the 110th anniversary of the outstanding Georgian poet and academician Irakli Abashidze. His name is associated with the organization of the first scientific expedition of Georgian scholars to the Georgian-built monastery of the Cross at Jerusalem, the 800th anniversary of Rustaveli, the establishment of Georgian Encyclopedia, etc. Over the years, Irakli Abashidze chaired the Writers’ Union, served as vice president of the Academy of Sciences, and, most importantly, created his philosophical poems. Irakli Abashidze lived in the most difficult conditions of the Soviet regime, held high positions, and the regime demanded compromises, but he managed to maintain his dignity and integrity.
