  • January 25, 2020

At the meeting of the Commission for the Study of Ecological Security of the National Academy of Sciences, the head of the Hydrometeorological Department of the National Environment Agency at the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia delivered a report:  “Forecasting of the soil wind erosion in Gare Kakheti and Shiraki”. This work has been carried out within the framework of the UNDP project “The Fourth National Communication of Georgia to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change”. Wind erosion phenomena in Georgia are quite widespread and include Gare Kakheti, Shiraki, partly Shida Kartli and presumably the Javakheti region. The report examined the areas of spreading of wind erosion on the earth and methods for predicting it. In our case, the American methodology – the equation of wind erosion (WEQ) was used to study this process. The report discusses some of the factors that cause wind erosion, with particular emphasis on vegetation.
