Session of the Commission for Study of Topical Issues of Medicine in Georgia

On 12 March 2021, the regular ninth session of the “Commission for the Study of Topical Issues of Medicine in Georgia” was held at the Presidium of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The session was held online, via Zoom platform. It was attended by members of the commission, academicians, representatives of professional association, experts. The session was opened by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Archil Chkhotua. He noted that the work of the commission should not be limited to discussing the problems of clinical medicine, but also, it is necessary to discuss such important issues relating to medicine as: non-traditional medicine, fundamental science, basic research, etc. It was suggested to expand the sphere of interests of the Commission. The session was devoted to such interesting and topical issues as the history of medicine, folk medicine, paleopathology and others. Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences Ramaz Shengelia delivered a report about the role and importance of the history of medicine. The third report – “Paleopathology – History, Goals and Perspectives” was delivered by Marine Chkadua from the Georgian National Museum. After the reports, an active discussion took place.
