Meeting of the Commission for the Study of Civilizations of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Region

Presentation of Doctor Erekle Jordania’s monograph – “Byzantine Pontus and Georgia: Issues of Historical Geography and Ethnotoponymy of the Southeastern Black Sea in XIII-XV Centuries” took place at the Presidium. The event was organized by the Commission for the Study of Civilizations of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Region, Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and Neo-Greek Studies of the Tbilisi I.Javakhishvili State University and the National Union of Byzantine Scholars of Georgia via Zoom platform. The work presented by Doctor of History Erekle Jordania is of interdisciplinary character and is based on a complex analysis of data from different epoches and sources, which significantly expands the chronological and geographical boundaries of the study. An in-depth study of the issues of ethnic history, historical geography, ethnotoponymy and the development of the Pontic polyethnic society of the XIII-XV centuries in the south-eastern Black Sea is given in the historical perspective, in the context of interaction and interinfluence of different cultures and civilizations.
