Professor Zurab Papaskiri’s Report

Professor Zurab Papaskiri’s Report

  • October 14, 2021

On 8 October, 2021, a regular meeting of the Presidium was held at the Academy of Sciences. The meeting was opened by the President of the Academy, Academician Giorgi Kvesitadze. The event was attended by the Vice-President of the Academy, Academician Roin Metreveli, Academician-Secretary Ramaz Khurodze; also the representatives of the Abkhazian government and the rector of the Sokhumi University Zurab Khonelidze.

Professor Zurab Papaskiri made a brief overview of the historical publications issued in Abkhazia over the past 30 years, which show the incompetence of Abkhaz authors (historians, philologists, etc.).  It was emphasised that falsification of historical truth has been one of the main weapons in the ideological arsenal of the Abkhaz separatist movement for decades. After the tragic events of 1992-1993, the scale of anti-Georgian “nationalist-historiographical” propaganda exceeded all permissible limits and grew into universal hysteria.

At the meeting it was decided to take into account Professor Zurab Papaskiri’s report “On some tendencies of falsification of the historical past of Georgia-Abkhazia in the latest publications of Abkhaz scientists.”
