Biography

The research interests include:  structural geology and geotectonics; structural geology and mechanism of tectonic structure formation; morphologic-kinematical features and genesis of tectonic nappes; geodynamic evolution of the Mediterranean (Alpine- Himalayan) collisional orogenic belt and paleotectonic recionstructions; horizontal tectonic layering of the lithosphere  and geodynamic conditions of formation of magmatic and metamorphic rocks; terrane analyses of the Caucasus and adjacent areas.

In all these directions studies have been performed for more than 45 years on the basis of the Plate tectonics theory. The results are published in periodicals and as monographs. They synthesized also in geological (2003) and tectonic (2013) digital maps of Georgia at a scale of 1: 500 000.

For the series of scientific works, devoted to theoretical and applied aspects of these problems, in 2018 I was awarded the National Prize of Georgia.
