Meeting of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology
- May 17, 2023
On May 11, 2023, a meeting of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia was held on the topic: “Environmental factors affecting historical and cultural monuments and the possibility of their elimination”. The report was delivered by Giorgi Tsintskaladze, Doctor of Chemistry, senior researcher of the Laboratory for the Study of Physical and Chemical Processes at the Petre Melikishvili Institute of Physical and Organic Chemistry. It was highlighted that in order to evaluate the environmental risk of historical and cultural monuments, it is necessary to list all environmental factors (both natural and anthropogenic) affecting each monument, according to their strength, intensity and degree of probability. For this, a special matrix for determining the quality of this impact is proposed, which, by combining the probability and intensity of causal processes, makes it possible to assess the quality of the impact. Such certification of monuments will greatly facilitate the restoration and rehabilitation work on them.
